Norberto Pezzotta

Norberto Pezzotta nasce a Bergamo nel novembre 1970. Fotografo attratto dal concetto di bellezza in tutte le sue forme, muove la sua ricerca lungo la fragile soglia tra realtà e immaginazione.

Si innamora della fotografia a dodici anni, quando durante un viaggio in moto con il padre riceve in dono una reflex con cui inizia a sperimentare. Orientato agli studi economici e appassionato di marketing, si laurea in Economia e Commercio seguendo per anni la strada della razionalità e del pragmatismo, finché non sente il bisogno di esplorare territori più affini alla sua indole.

È a New York, dove lavora come marketing manager, che la fotografia torna a occupare un posto centrale: frequenta gallerie e addetti ai lavori, apprende la tecnica e affina il proprio sguardo. Al rientro in Italia la fotografia diventa la sua professione, affiancando al lavoro su commissione una produzione artistica intesa come spazio di ricerca personale e intima.

La fotografia analogica in bianco e nero resta il cuore della sua pratica: un processo lento e contemplativo che restituisce profondità, silenzio e materia a un'epoca sempre più segnata dalla simulazione. Negli ultimi anni questa pratica si è aperta al dialogo con l'intelligenza artificiale, due linguaggi apparentemente lontani che, intrecciandosi, rivelano nuove forme di bellezza, contraddizione e verità. Il gesto di sovrapporre, stratificare e alterare le immagini, fisicamente e concettualmente, è diventato centrale nel suo lavoro: un modo per rendere visibili le fratture della percezione e dare corpo alla tensione tra autenticità e invenzione.

Con il progetto Augmented Unreality ottiene l'attenzione della critica; con Here, not There porta questa ricerca su un terreno civile, riportando l'immaginario della guerra dentro i paesaggi familiari del proprio territorio. Entrambi i lavori sono meditazioni sulla coesistenza tra reale e immaginario e su come fragilità e imperfezione possano trasformarsi in forza espressiva.

Norberto Pezzotta was born in Bergamo, Italy, in November 1970. A photographer drawn to the idea of beauty in all its forms, he pursues his research along the fragile threshold between reality and imagination.

He fell in love with photography at the age of twelve when, during a motorcycle trip with his father, he was given a reflex camera and began to experiment. Inclined toward economics and with a passion for marketing, he earned a degree in Economics and Business and for years followed the path of rationality and pragmatism, until he felt the need to explore territories more in tune with his nature.

It was in New York, where he worked as a marketing manager, that photography returned to the center of his life: he frequented galleries and professionals in the field, learned the craft, and refined his eye. Upon returning to Italy, photography became his profession, with commissioned work running alongside an artistic practice conceived as a space for personal and intimate research.

Black-and-white analog photography remains the heart of his practice: a slow, contemplative process that restores depth, silence, and materiality to an age increasingly defined by simulation. In recent years this practice has opened up to a dialogue with artificial intelligence, two seemingly distant languages that, when interwoven, reveal new forms of beauty, contradiction, and truth. The act of overlaying, layering, and altering images, both physically and conceptually, has become central to his work: a way of making the fractures of perception visible and giving form to the tension between authenticity and invention.

With Augmented Unreality he gained critical attention; with Here, not There he carries this research into civic territory, bringing the imagery of war back into the familiar landscapes of his own homeland. Both works are meditations on the coexistence of the real and the imaginary, and on how fragility and imperfection can become expressive strength.
